About IAMSE Audio Seminars

A webcast audio seminar is a 1-hour webinar. The webinars are a method of exchanging vital information on timely topics in medical education. The slant of each is geared toward our membership who have responsibility for teaching the basic sciences to those in medical training. These basic sciences encompass all subjects that have arisen from the seven traditional disciplines of:

  • Anatomy
  • Behavioral Science
  • Biochemistry
  • Microbiology and Immunology
  • Pathology
  • Pharmacology
  • Physiology

As with other IAMSE events, all medical professionals are welcome to participate. The fee structure is broken down as follows:

Single Session Full Series
Individual IAMSE Member $30 $120
Institutional IAMSE Members $120 $500
Individual IAMSE Non-Member $55 $240
Institutional IAMSE Non-Member $250 $750

International in scope, these seminars routinely attract participants from three or more countries.

Several topics are being planned and will be explored in groups of five related 1-hour seminars over the course of 5 weeks. Each group constitutes a thematic series, although each presentation is designed to stand independently of the others.

FORMAT

IAMSE Webcast Audio Seminars are similar to the small group Focus Sessions we offer at our Annual Association Meetings (but shorter), in that each will address a single topic. These Seminars are actually 40-45 minute (maximum) formal presentation by an acknowledged expert in that field. The speaker controls his/her PowerPoint slides that appear either on your computer monitor, or as you have arranged to project from a computer onto your conference room screen. This is followed by 15-20-minutes of moderated discussion/Q&A. One (sometimes two) individuals have been invited to present and lead each session which you “attend” directly from your office or conference room via Zoom Webinar session. The speaker delivers this presentation directly from his/her own office.

LOGISTICS

All Audio Seminars are conducted using Zoom. A registrant may be alone in their own office, be in their office with one or two others, or with full projection equipment bringing this presentation to 10, 20, or even more individuals. You may need to download Zoom prior to joining the session. Zoom is available for free on their website.

There is no call-in information available. All audio will be run through your browser and to your computer’s audio system.

REGISTRATION AND RECEIVING CONNECTION INFORMATION

When registering for the web cast audio seminar, you will be prompted to give a contact name and email. If you are registering as an individual, you may enter your own name and email or an assistant’s name and email. If you are registering as an institution, the name provided will be responsible for distributing the information to the entire faculty. In order to receive the membership discount you must use the same email address that your membership is listed under. Institutions wishing to receive membership discount, must have one of the IAMSE institutional members listed as the institutional contact to register for the member rate. As you may know, institutional membership grants four faculty and two student memberships; however, registering for the webinar as an institution grants the entire faculty access to the series. Please note that an institutional registration is for your LOCATION ONLY as defined by your accreditation listing with AAMC/AACOM and is not to be shared with any faculty within other universities.

The Monday prior to each session, all registered participants will be provided with an email containing all details for viewing the webinar. In that e-mail message will be the URL for the webcast. During the actual seminar, the presenter will control movement of the slides on your computer monitor. A second URL is provided which contains all of the presenter’s slides in .pdf-format, these can be controlled by the participant. A third URL is sent with a presentation handout to provide opportunity for registrants to preview all slides, which is highly encouraged.

ARRIVE ON TIME AND STAY FOR THE COMPLETE SEMINAR

IAMSE Webcast Audio Seminars adhere to a strict schedule as a courtesy to everyone involved. Each will begin promptly at the hour designated, so we ask that you connect to the webinar 3 to 5 minutes before the starting time. Likewise, Webcast Audio Seminars will end at 60 minutes.

FOLLOW-UP & ARCHIVE

In addition, each session will be archived. This affords those who registered but could not attend the actual seminar the opportunity to take advantage of the presentation. The day following each session, everyone registered for the session will receive the archive link and password.

At the end of each IAMSE Webcast Audio Seminar, all participants will be requested to complete the electronic evaluation form sent after the call via email. These anonymous forms provide necessary feedback to the presenter(s) and to us, the organizers. We are grateful for your cooperation in this.

We cordially invite you to join us for this interactive means of sharing information relevant to medical science education and medical science educators. The benefit of IAMSE Webcast Audio Seminars is that they are presented live, and are interactive, with experts in the subject presenting and leading the discussions. Also, because there is no need to leave your office, it is both efficient and relatively inexpensive.
