From awareness to implementation: a comprehensive professional development program for health professions educators.
Program Overview
The IAMSE AI in Health Professions Education (AI in HPE) Course is a six-month, scaffolded faculty development program that equips health professions educators with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to meaningfully integrate AI into teaching, assessment, curriculum design, and scholarship.
This is not a workshop series — it is a comprehensive course with mentored implementation.
The course builds on two AI Professional Development Workshops offered at the Annual Meeting (which can also be attended as standalone sessions), then extends learning through a virtual implementation lab and a mentored project at participants’ home institutions.
2026 Cohort 1: Applications now open Limited to 25 participants
How This Works: PDWs vs. Full Course
At the 2026 IAMSE Annual Meeting, we will offer two AI Professional Development Workshops:
- PDW 1: AI Foundations & Tool Exploration (3 hours, in-person)
- PDW 2: Advanced Applications in HPE (3 hours, in-person)
You can register for these PDWs as standalone workshops through the Annual Meeting registration system (no application required).
OR you can apply for the comprehensive AI in HPE Course (limited to 25 participants), which includes:
- Both in-person workshops (Workshops 1 & 2)
- Workshop 3: Virtual Implementation Skills Lab (October 2026)
- Mentored implementation project (3–6 months)
- Structured office hours and 1-on-1 consultations with course directors and selected faculty
- AI Community of Growth integration for ongoing peer support
The full course provides mentorship, accountability, and support that standalone workshop attendance does not.
Application Process
Due to the mentorship-intensive nature of this program, enrollment is limited to 25 participants for the inaugural cohort. Participants will be selected based on:
- Clarity and feasibility of their proposed implementation project
- Diversity of applications across educational functions (curriculum, assessment, analytics, research, administration)
- Likelihood of successful implementation
- Geographic and institutional diversity to strengthen peer learning
Application Requirements:
- Brief project proposal (500 words) describing:
- The health professions educational opportunity at your institution
- How you propose to apply an AI solution to successfully address this challenge
- Your project’s implementation process and available resources
- Professional bio highlighting your educational role
- Confirmation that you will attend (or have attended*) the prerequisite Workshops 1 & 2
*participants that attended the 2025 inaugural AI in HPE Professional Development Workshops are welcome to apply.
