Celebrating Flexner Centennial: Past, Present and Future"

March 2 – April 6, 2010

Medical education in America has been shaped over the past century by a significant explosion of new knowledge, advanced technology and more complex institutions. This webcast series will respectfully reflect on significant transitions and stages of change in medical education with a fresh look at future trends likely to enrich student learning and critical thinking. The recent evidence from the basic and clinical sciences suggests that a new era will configure increased scientific and regulatory oversight, learner-centered curriculum and student learning opportunities that reflect the social, ethical and economic needs of an ever-changing society.

JIAMSE

Members are reminded to consider publication in the journal. Information about the various publication types can be found on the website at www.jiamse.org. A variety of publication types may be found in every issue from full length research reports to shorter, often preliminary data, published in the form of 350 word Innovations in Medical Education. Recent years have seem the addition of some other formats including longer reviews, Monographs, and Medical Education Case Studies, which are presented with commentary by experts from various viewpoints related to the descriptive case. Instructions to Authors can also be found at the website for the journal including particulars for each of the publication types considered for publication.

The journal is published four times per year. Manuscripts are accepted throughout the year and subjected to an efficient peer review. If accepted, articles are published in the next available issue.

HEAL – Health Education Assets Library

IAMSE and HEAL have worked closely over the past two years to incorporate HEAL as a resource of the organization. This publication type represents another opportunity for IAMSE members to gain recognition for the development of their educational materials. As many of you know, HEAL is a digital repository for educational materials. These may include images, video clips, animations or audio files.

The HEAL Committee has been busily working to reorganize. A new set of review criteria has been completed in collaboration with the Educational Scholarship Committee. Peer reviewers are currently being recruited and trained. Once completed, efficient review of resources submitted to HEAL will be the norm. The committee is also working to improve the functionality of the resource through upgrading the online platform, incorporating more user friendly functions, such as reference pop-ups. IAMSE’s investment in HEAL offers both resource and opportunity to IAMSE members.

Members can learn more about HEAL at www.healcentral.org.
