Significant Developments in the History of IAMSE - 2003

Individuals from 26 countries participated in the
2003
Seventh Annual Association Meeting hosted and
joint-sponsored by Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. |

Day-long IAMSE
courses in faculty development are provided for
the second year during the 2003 Annual Association Meeting in
Washington, D.C. These signature courses are designed to
provide basic science faculty with professional development
opportunities that are specific to their roles as medical
science educators. |

Arrangements are concluded for the 2004
Eighth Annual Association Meeting to be hosted and
joint-sponsored by the Tulane University School of Medicine, New
Orleans, Louisiana. |

Drs. Jack
Strandhoy (Wake Forest University School of Medicine), Bruce
Newton (University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences) and Doug
Wood (American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic
Medicine) are elected to the Board of Directors. |

A second Strategic Planning Retreat is held in Washington,
D.C. Board members travel to Georgetown University for the
day-long retreat to further develop long-term and short-term
goals and objectives. |

The Journal
of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (JIAMSE) begins offering library subscriptions. |

The Journal
of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (JIAMSE) is published in English, French and Spanish. |

Dr.
Jean-François Bertholon is appointed as Associate Editor
for the Journal
of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (JIAMSE). |

Jennifer Brueckner is appointed as Associate Editor
for the Journal
of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (JIAMSE). |

Webcast
Audio Seminars are presented in a Winter
Series addressing the theme Using the Internet for
Teaching and Learning the Basic Sciences. Participation and
enthusiasm for the webcast audio seminars continue to grow. |

The Public Affairs
Committee begins broadcasting monthly reports to gather and
report events that have potential for direct impact on basic
science education and basic science educators |

A joint-membership option
in IAMSE and the Association
for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) becomes
effective January 1, 2003. |

Dr.
Roger Koment and IAMSE are showcased in the
November/December 2003 edition of Academic Physician and
Scientist. |
 |
Membership in IAMSE increases to be represented by 53
countries. |
