GRIPE Award History

Distinguished Service Award

Selection criteria:

The emphasis will be on contributions to the GRIPE organization, which will be defined as broadly as possible and include both leadership as an officer, editor, development of GRIPE resources such as the Item Bank, or chair of a committee(ies). The award will recognize the broader category of “exceptional leadership and participation” rather than just presentation skills and should recognize a lifetime of contributions that were consistent, visionary, and thoughtful which resulted in contributions building the GRIPE organization in support of excellence in pathology education. The awardee must be a current GRIPE member to be eligible.

Award Information:

The award shall be a plaque presented at the annual meeting. The awardee will have time allotted during the meeting program to share thoughts on changes that have occurred in pathology education over the years of his/her service along with hopes for educating the next generation in pathology. The award need not be presented each year.

Tom Kent Award for Excellence in Pathology Education

Selection criteria:

The emphasis will be on contributions to Pathology education, which will be defined as broadly as possible, and include both undergraduate and graduate programs. The award will recognize the broader category of “education”, rather than just presentation skills, and should recognize a “lifetime” of contributions, rather than something done at any one point in time. The awardee’s contribution to education should be widely recognized, and not simply gratitude for “services to GRIPE.”. Anyone who has made a major contribution to Pathology education will be eligible, whether or not they are GRIPE members.

The award shall be a plaque presented at the annual meeting. The awardee will have time allotted during the meeting program to share thoughts on their contribution to education along with where they see pathology education moving in the future. The award need not be presented each year.

John H. Holliman Resident Scholarship

Award Information

To encourage the support of professional development for pathology educators, the Group for Research in Pathology Education (GRIPE) is again offering the John H. Holliman Resident Scholarship to a pathology resident who is sincerely interested in pursuing undergraduate or graduate teaching of pathology as part of their career planning. GRIPE is a national/international organization of institutions, interest groups, and individuals who are dedicated to improving the quality of pathology education in allopathic and osteopathic medical, nursing, dental and allied health schools. The scholarship covers registration expenses (travel and lodging are not included) for the annual GRIPE meeting.
