Niamh Kelly, Ph.D., Associate Professor,
Department of Pathology and Laboratory
Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, UBC

|
Niamh has taught the
full gamut from large second year science
classes, small PBL groups, an online course
in Infectious Diseases and, science students
engaged in teaching hands-on science to
children. She has taught courses that span
the Faculties of Medicine, Science and
Education. As a key player in the design and
delivery of UBC’s distributed medical
program, which delivers UBC’s medical
program to three distinct University
campuses (in British Columbia) separated by
water and approx. 500 miles (or 800 km) of
land, she has been at the forefront in the
promotion, design, and delivery of
distributed learning. Niamh often uses what
she coins a ‘trickle down learning’
approach. For instance, in teaching science
to young children, she excites teachers,
parents and University students to do
engaging science experiments with children
thereby, facilitating the childrens’
learning of science. Niamh will be joined in
this session by second year medical students
who will share their perspective on
assessment.
