Nehad El-Sawi, PhD, is
President, KCUMB Institute for Medical
Education Innovation. Nehad received her
doctorate degree in Microbiology from
Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland; master of
sciences from University of Dayton, Ohio and
completed a postdoctoral fellowship at
University of California School of Medicine
at Irvine. Nehad has completed numerous
postgraduate educational advancement
programs including the Harvard Macy
programs for Educators in the Health
Professions; and Leaders in
Healthcare Education; the University
of Maastricht School of Medicine Program for
Expanding Horizons in Problem-Based Learning
in Medicine; and the AAMC Medical
Education Research Certificate.
During Nehad’s career
at Kansas City University of Medicine and
Biosciences, she had the opportunity to lead
a number of medical education ventures.
These have included spearheading the
development and implementation of an
integrated clinical presentation curriculum;
implementation of CQI curriculum evaluation
model and the development of an MBA program
specifically formulated for medical
students. Nehad also received the John
Templeton Spirituality and Medicine Award
for Medical School Curricula on the
development of an integrated, longitudinal
curriculum on spirituality, end-of-life care
and culture diversity; and the Missouri
Governors’ Award for Excellence in Teaching.
She regularly presents
and/or conduct workshops and symposia
regarding innovative curricular designs,
assessment and evaluation at regional,
national and international meetings; and is
regularly invited as a teaching faculty at
the Harvard Macy program for Educators in
the Health Professions.
