“Maximizing Your Leadership Potential” Part I

Each of us in academic medicine must develop many leadership roles in our career.  It may be as a mentor to students or young faculty members, as a course director or committee chair, as an officer in a professional society, or in a formal position in our school as chair or dean. At other times we are the follower or team member and respond to leaders.  Understanding the conceptual and practical aspects of what makes a leader effective helps us maximize opportunities, operations and outcomes.  Educational leadership requires skills:  perspectives, strategies, interpersonal interactions and clear communication.  Effective leadership boosts productivity, career success, and morale.  This series will explore the dynamic interaction of organizations, individuals, behaviors, strategies, cultures and contexts required to develop leadership effectiveness in academic healthcare settings.
