Nehad received her doctorate degree in
Microbiology from Trinity College, Dublin,
Ireland; master of sciences from University
of Dayton, Ohio and completed a postdoctoral
fellowship at University of California
School of Medicine at Irvine. Nehad has
completed numerous postgraduate educational
advancement programs including the Harvard
Macy programs for Educators in the Health
Professions; and Leaders in Healthcare
Education; the University of Maastricht
School of Medicine Program for Expanding
Horizons in Problem-Based Learning in
Medicine; and the AAMC Medical Education
Research Certificate.
Nehad has held offices in numerous
professional organizations, including board
of directors, International Association of
Medical Science Educators (IAMSE);
President, Missouri Branch of the American
Society of Microbiology. She currently
chairs the Professionalism special interest
group at American Association of Colleges of
Osteopathic Medicine; the curriculum special
interest group for the Central Group on
Educational Affairs (CGEA), AAMC; and chair
of AMSMIC education committee.
During Nehad’s career, she had the
opportunity to lead a number of medical
education ventures. These have included
spearheading the development and
implementation of an integrated clinical
presentation curriculum and the development
of an MBA program specifically formulated
for medical students at Kansas City
University of Medicine and Biosciences.
Nehad also received the John Templeton
Spirituality and Medicine Award for Medical
School Curricula on the development of an
integrated, longitudinal curriculum on
spirituality, end-of-life care and culture
diversity.
Currently, Nehad’s passion for curriculum
development has led her to Mesa, Arizona to
assume the responsibility of the founding
curriculum dean for the new A.T. Still
University, College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Nehad is the proud mother of Sarah (a
recently graduating physician) and Kareem
(an Information Technology student). Nehad
loves water activities including scuba
diving and jet skiing; and considers her
tremendous richness is in the wealth of
relationships with family and friends.
Having received part of her education in
Ireland, she considers herself Irish at
heart and holds Ireland in the same special
place in her heart with her other two homes
Egypt and the United States.
