Finding, Organizing and Using Free Media Resources

Media Resources you can use and not abuse. This is what many faculty want for their lecture the day after tomorrow or their exam tomorrow.  Ideally, resources should be easy to find, easy to download, easy to store and to retrieve, and of course, properly credited.  Yes, this sounds like a conjunction of the planets.  Impossible you say, because my university lawyers have me totally intimidated about using or sharing anything.  Well, the situation is much better than you think. Yes, we have Google Images and GoogleVideo, but better yet find and use material managed by the Creative Commons, http://creativecommons.org/.

Prior to the webcast a list of url shared resources will be provided for you to explore before or after the audio session.  If you have some to share do email them.

Discover URL Manager Pro, http://www.url-manager.com, if you are on a Mac, or similar PC utility for managing and nesting your bookmarks.  If you are just getting started and looking for ”reusable learning objects” try www.healcentral.org as a place to download video, animations and images. HEAL Local, http://www.healcentral.org/services/servicesHEAL_Local.jsp,  is just being released to help you organize downloaded or institutional resources and mange them on your own computer.  A report of my beta test will be included.  Other image management system, such as iPhoto (Mac), can also be used by novices.

Objectives:

Find resources on the web and keep track of them.

Create lectures, quizzes, cases you can have freely open for students and faculty at any non-profit education institution.

Participate in the power and joy of sharing materials across the globe.
