Scholarship in Action:
The Case of the Team Learning Collaborative
2000-2004
Presented by Dr.
Boyd Richards
Baylor College of Medicine |
|
Description
| In this presentation,
Dr. Boyd Richards will illustrate and reinforce
principles and methods of educational
scholarship introduced in the previous sessions.
He will share specific examples of faculty from
across the country who, as part of a
collaborative effort to disseminate and evaluate
team learning in medical education, have engaged
in exemplarily educational scholarship projects
(e.g., investigation of the relationship between
use of team learning in a clerkship and
performance on NBME shelf exam scores; a
comparison of patterns in instructor-student
engagement between team learning, lectures and
problem-based learning). With each example, Dr.
Richards will describe salient features of the
scholarship involved, outcomes to date, and
relevant lessons learned. Across the set of
examples, he will highlight different aspects of
scholarship, including personal preparation,
project design, acquisition of funding, analysis
of results, dissemination of findings, and
critical-reflection for improvement. In
conclusion, Dr. Richards will use the
similarities and differences in the examples to
help participants generalize the findings to
their individual situations.
