Sebastian Uijtdehaage is Assistant
Professor of Medicine and Assistant Director
of the Instructional Design and Technology
Unit at the David Geffen School of Medicine
at UCLA. He is co-chair of the UCLA
Medical Education Fellowship program.
He received his Master’s degree from the
Free University of Amsterdam in
Psychophysiology and his PhD in Experimental
Psychology from The Pennsylvania State
University. From 1991-1998, he
conducted research at UCLA in areas of
cardiovascular physiology and
electrophysiology. In 1993 he pioneered
in the use of web-based technology to enhance
teaching. He has given numerous
presentation and workshops in the US, Europe
and Asia on the use of web-based technologies
in medical education.
Having a strong interest multimedia and
database technologies, Dr. Uijtdehaage
spearheaded in 1999 the creation of the
Health Education Assets Library (HEAL), a
national multimedia library for medical
education. HEAL has received a total of
$2 million in funding from the National
Library of Medicine and the National Science
Foundation and is receiving strong support
from the Association of American Medical
Colleges. Currently, Dr. Uijtdehaage
co-directs HEAL along with Chris Candler, MD
(U of Oklahoma) and Sharon Dennis, MS (U of
Utah).
