Laura Thomas, B.S. is a fourth year medical student
at Wayne State University School of Medicine and is currently
applying to dermatology residency programs. Ultimately, she
plans to pursue a career in academic medicine. Ms. Thomas
obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Honors College
at the University of Michigan where she completed her thesis on
developmental neurobiology.
During medical school she has been involved in dermatology
research and many extracurricular activities. Recently, she

for publication and is now creating a computer database of
dermatology images. Ms. Thomas has been involved in
development of the mobile and handheld initiatives at Wayne State
University since the pilot project, and continues to work towards
providing student perspectives and input with specific regard to
clinical applications. Through her involvement in this
project, she was invited to speak last spring at the Educational
Strategies Workshop "Teaching Microbiology and Immunology to
Medical Students" sponsored biennially by the Association of
Medical School Microbiology and Immunology Chairs (AMSMIC).
Most recently, she was invited to present student perspectives on
technology in medical education at the Sixth Annual Meeting of the
International Association of Medical Science Educators in
Guadalajara, Mexico.
