Ama Rogan, B.F.A. is the Teaching Programs
Coordinator for the Teaching and Assessment of Professional Skills
Program (TAPS) at Tulane University School of Medicine in New
Orleans, LA. Ms. Rogan is a trainer of standardized patients (SPs)
and specializes in programs that work with faculty to use
standardized patients in the instruction of Clinical Skills and on
giving feedback to learners from the patient perspective. She
began her 10 years experience with standardized patients when she
became a Gynecological Teaching Associate, teaching the breast and
pelvic exams to medical students. Four years ago she became a
full-time trainer for multiple teaching programs including
instruction of head-to-toe physical, invasive exams, communication
skills, patient education and counseling.
Ms. Rogan has served as consultant to other universities and
residency programs on the training of SPs in instruction. She
has presented workshops at Standardized Patient Educator Conferences
and at the Ottawa Conference on Medical Education on training SPs in
clinical instruction and how SPs can be used to give feedback on
patient education and counseling.
