C4 - Helping the Learner to Learn in the Medical School Classroom
Dr. Harold Modell, Physiology Educational Research

This Course is Now CLOSED

Description:

This workshop focuses on developing a learner-centered environment in the  medical school classroom.  It is designed to help faculty recognize key elements for making the transition to a learner-centered environment in their classrooms and to examine strategies for becoming a reflective practitioner who's job is to help the learner to learn.

Topics addressed include:

Meaningful learning (learning with understanding)

Fostering a safe learning environment in which students engage in meaningful learning

Setting and meeting classroom goals

Assessing progress in this environment

The ideas and suggestions presented in the workshop are based on those presented by Joel Michael and Harold Modell in their book "Active learning in secondary and college science classrooms: A working model for helping the learner to learn" (Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Publishers, 2003.  ISBN 0-8058-3948-8).
