THE ROLE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN NURSING EDUCATION

Simin Mehdipour*, Afsar Foroud. Islamic Azad University , College of Nursing & Midwifery, Kerman , 7635168115, Iran

Technology use in the education process has, in many ways, kept pace with the exponential growth in its use across all facets of life in the United States , indeed, in much of the world. Contemporary students view and drive meaning in a style that is vastly different from the teaching traditionally used in higher education. Education, notably nursing education, has responded by teaching technological skills and integrating technology into teaching strategies. Wonderful development of knowledge and using technology and internet are critical in nursing education. Investigations found that, in general, computer-based simulations positively affect skill and knowledge acquisition in healthcare education and students in nursing and other health-related fields bring to the teaching-learning venture various levels of experience and skill with technology-enhanced learning. The impact of internet on nursing education has been profound. Development of the Internet as a source of education opportunities has huge potential for nurses throughout the world, particularly those who do not have ready access to educational institutions and specialized expertise. The classroom learning education paradigm for nursing students has shifted from teacher focused to student focused, with technology adding a whole new dimension to the process and students in general are attracted to learning via technology. Technology has undeniably changed nursing education and it will doubtless continue to do so. Whether the changes are positive or negative will depend much on nursing educators. Changes in the healthcare delivery system required revisions in the nursing curriculum to prepare nurses who are "knowledge workers-able to manage information and high technology on the one hand and complicated clinical judgments on the other." Society and nursing education have been changed by Internet access. It is a change that will likely be permanent as the potential of technology increases.
