This report describes the ongoing implementation of a relational database
mapping of all medical curriculum learning objectives.
The database supports and develops faculty capacities to manage
ongoing content development and overall curriculum assessment.
This project is currently being implemented through three phases of
database development. It
features a standardized web-based interface that is utilized throughout
all four years of the medical curriculum and is designed to support a
unified faculty philosophy focused on Learning Oriented Instruction.
In the first phase of development, content delivery and curriculum
mapping includes development of learning objectives for all instructional
units and describing the objectives with the coding systems of the USMLE
Step I and II exams. In the
second phase, faculty development is fostered by permitting easy retrieval
of objectives and content so that curricular elements can be better
focused. The third phase on
student assessment mapping will permit linking all exam questions to
learning objectives, content categories and assessment criteria.
It will permit assessment mapping and better oversight of
curricular content.
