6th Annual Meeting of the International Association of Medical Science Educators 20 de Julio de 2002
Honorable Representative of the Governor of the State of Jalisco, Honorable Mayor of Zapopan, and Representative of the Mayor of Guadalajara, Vice President, and General Secretary of the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, and Dr. Leon Borquez... En nombre de la Asociacion Internacional de Educadores de Ciencias Medicas Agradezco la calida bienvenida a Mexico y a la ciudad de Guadalajara. On behalf of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE), I thank you for this most gracious welcome to Mexico and the City of Guadalajara. We are pleased that our colleagues at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara have offered to host this most important international event in medical education. IAMSE is based in the United States of America. Therefore, it is fitting that such an event be held in Mexico as another means of reaffirming to the world the positive relationship that has always existed between our two great nations. In the months that have followed the tragic events of September 11th, such reaffirmation of understanding between cultures is important for all citizens of the world. In the front of this room you see a display of flags. They are here to represent registrants of this meeting who have come from 16 countries to participate in discussions of how we can better train physicians for the practice of medicine in the 21st Century. In a time when the world is frightened by those who would destroy, over the next few days may we here, seek ways to better train those who would heal. IAMSE is a global organization and as such, has always welcomed medical faculty members from all nations. That’s because we believe that all nations have a significant contribution to make to medicine. I welcome each of you to this meeting and encourage you to learn from one another. On behalf of the conference organizers, program committee, Officers and Directors, and the entire international membership of IAMSE, I thank our host, Dr. Leon-Borquez and the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara for their invitation to joint-sponsor this meeting, for their hospitality, and for the opportunity for all of us to experience the culture of Mexico. Ricardo, thank you!
Roger W. Koment, Ph.D.
