General characteristics of Latin American universities. Admission, curricula and graduation as a "three-step" moments in the achievent of medical resources: a) relationship between knowledge levels on arrival to the university, b) evolution of the curriculum from traditional to non-traditional teaching and learning methods, as well as the equilibrium between basic and clinical contents and c) medical, social and economical issues regarding the procedures of the rooky graduates.

Different concernings in the evaluation of teaching and researching activities, giving an unequal value to the last ones.  High number of students within the schools of medicine.  Evaluation of the roles and participation of non-medical graduates in the medical schools.

The meeting only discussed the characteristics (objectives and subjectives) of the teaching and learning processes in different countries of the region.  It was our intention neither to define nor to elaborate any proposal at this first point, but emphasize the convenience of opening this type of scenarios for a further broad discussion, including in the agenda the goal of an achievement of concluding remarks and documents.  Finally, the presentation was delivered in English but the discussion was carried in Spanish.
