T5 TBL: Creating an Effective Group Application Exercise

Paul Haidet, Baylor College of Medicine
Dan Mayer, Albany Medical Center

This workshop is for those who have had the introductory workshop or equivalent experience.  It is conducted in a TBL format: advanced reading assignment, assignment to teams based on diversity of resources in the room; active team discussion on what represents the BEST in Objectives, RAT Questions, and Group Application Exercise Questions. Each team will write a dynamic and challenging GAE question and post it for whole class review and critique.

By the conclusion of this workshop, each participant will be able to:

1) Explain the ‘backwards design’ approach used to create a TBL module.
2) Use the “4 S’s” in crafting a Group Application Question.
3) Define good objectives and meaningful Readiness Assurance questions.
