T2 TBL: Making Peer Evaluation Work

Paul Koles, Wright State University
Ruth Levine, University of Texas Medical Branch

Creating a ‘culture’ in the classroom that supports effective peer evaluation is a real challenge.  This workshop, conducted in a TBL format, grapples with the tough issues of helping students learn how to provide feedback to one another in an on-going way, and render honest evaluations at the end of a course.  Several models for peer evaluation are demonstrated so that participants can begin to select what will work best in their setting.

By the conclusion of this workshop, each participant will be able to:

1) Identify the situational factors that require the use of peer evaluation for effective TBL.
2) Select the most appropriate ‘peer evaluation’ form and grading format for a course.
3) Communicate with a class about the importance of learning how to give and receive feedback.
