When instructors need to make their narrated PowerPoint slides available on the Web, Flash would be an excellent tool to allow them to do that. Using Flash also would be an effective way to add interactivity to the online presentations. When they need online tutorials for their students to train a software application, they would want to create interactive simulations with video clips of pre-recorded on-screen actions including mouse and keyboard activities in Flash. Creating online multimedia presentations and interactive tutorials in Flash, however, requires experienced web/multimedia developers. Adobe Captivate 2 overcomes this issue by allowing instructors to create narrated slide presentations and record on-screen actions without any programming knowledge or multimedia skills. The program also allows for the simple addition of a variety of interactive elements and instructional feedback to enhance the learning experience. Most importantly, Captivate 2 publishes Flash (.swf) files that are small in size and easily published online. In this hands-on workshop, we will learn how to create narrated slide presentations and interactive simulations with Captivate 2. For the first half of the workshop, we will learn how to insert narrations to the slides and add some captions and make them appear or disappear when we move a mouse over a certain area of a slide. In the second half of the workshop, we will record an interactive simulation, insert rollover captions, generate clickable and text entry boxes, and create interactive questions.
