F18 A Quantitative Look at 20 Years of Video Capture in Medical Education

Brian Tobin and Jenn Stringer, Stanford University

Many medical schools currently offer digital audio and video capture to allow students to watch or review course lectures asynchronously. After a school has made the decision to begin recording courses and selects a format/vendor, there still are a number of key questions and plans that need to be addressed. Some of these questions include- whether to require recording for everything, who owns copyrights, what are limits on student use of the media, archiving logistics, what effects recordings have on attendance, metadata, and simply how to get files to the course management system or repository.

OBJECTIVES:

Attendees will learn what issues are important to address after diving into video capture. Key topics for discussion are:

-    Copyright permissions

-    Data storage for archiving

-    Institutional policy for archiving and reuse

-    Distribution channels
