C6 Using Medical Simulation to Enhance Basic Science Education Throughout the Undergraduate Curriculum

John Szarek, School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona, A.T. Still University
Susan Pasquale, University of Massachusetts Medical School

Simulation has been a mainstay in graduate medical education, but only recently has it become increasingly common in undergraduate medical education. This interactive workshop will help basic science faculty learn how simulation can be used as part their repertoire of learning modalities for medical students in the first two years. In addition, the workshop will explore how basic science faculty can bring basic science into the clinical years through simulation. The workshop will include didactic and hands-on activities on simulation modalities, the rationale for the use of simulation, simulation as a complement to the basic science curriculum, the role of simulation in blended learning, and scenario construction and debriefing.
