Dr. Parmelee is the Associate Dean
for Academic Affairs at the Boonshoft School of Medicine of Wright State
University in Dayton, OH. Prior to joining Wright State in 2001, he was
Chairman of the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Professor of
Psychiatry & Pediatrics at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical
College of Virginia. He is a graduate of the University of Rochester School
of Medicine and completed his residencies at the Massachusetts General and
McLean Hospitals.
At the Boonshoft School of Medicine, he has pioneered Team-Based Learning (TBL)
throughout its curriculum as an alternative and supplement to lecture
teaching and to enhance medical student active learning and teamwork. He and
his institution sponsored the 4th Annual National Conference on Team-Based
Learning in Medical and Health Sciences Education in June 2005, and he has
conducted numerous faculty development workshops on TBL throughout the
country. He is the Chairperson for the Team-Based Learning Collaborative. He
is the author of numerous publications, including two texts, and is the
current co-editor of Team-Based Learning in Health Professions Education.
