F4 - Implementing an Electronic Curriculum

Drs. Michael Karr & Robert Klein, University of Kansas School of Medicine

The University of Kansas School of Medicine has recently initiated a new, integrated basic science curriculum. The curriculum is technology-intensive, utilizing Tablet PCs, virtual microscopy, wireless technology, pod-casting of lectures, and the AngelLearning content delivery system. The authors will discuss their experiences, both positive and negative, with the implementation of this new curriculum, and the new technology program that complements it.

After completion of this discussion group, the participant will: 1) Gain an understanding of the monetary and human resources required for a project of this magnitude; 2) Benefit from the experience and insight of other institutions who have implemented similar projects; 3) Understand the pros and cons of varied approaches to the inevitable problems that arise during the implementation phase of such a complex technological venture.
