Plenary II: The Art of Changing the Brain; Enriching Teaching by Exploring the Biology of Learning

Dr. James Zull, Case Western Reserve University

This talk will address the question, "can research on the brain and cognitive neuroscience provide ideas and information for improving teaching?" We will examine what is being discovered about human learning, and some of the fundamental processes that take place when we learn. It now seems clear that learning generates physical change in the brain, so we will discuss some ways that such change can be produced. The talk will be interactive, and the audience will be challenged to develop suggestions for changing their own teaching.
