F11 - Developing Effective Handouts in the Age of PowerPoint Presentations

You've worked hard on your lecture. The handout is not only your ally in delivering it but it also documents your work. Is your handout doing ample justice to your ideas, your style, and to what you want to convey to the audience?

The workshop will consist of an initial presentation focusing on techniques for preparing effective handouts that allow students to follow the lecture and increase the efficiency of studying both before and after it. Among the topics covered will be the degree of detail to include in the handout, formatting tips to optimize readability, and how to integrate PowerPoint slides into the handout so that the students can follow the lecture. Participants will then split into small groups for a hands-on exercise, following which additional ideas generated by the groups will be shared.

You do not need to bring samples of your own handouts, although you are welcome to do so and discuss them one-to-one with the presenters at the end of the session.
