F10 - A Simple Model for Improving Undergraduate Medical Education

Dr. Regina Kreisle, Purdue

New curricular approaches such as problem-based learning, system-based integration, and competency-based curricula, that have been incorporated into medical education in the last two decades have successfully highlighted key features of medical education but ignored successful features of other models. In this session we will identify the problem(s) each approach attempted to "fix" in the traditional curriculum, review a model containing four essential features of medical education derived from these new curricular approaches, demonstrate how each curricular approach could be improved by incorporating key educational features from the other curricular models, and discuss how such an approach could be implemented.
